How a Clot Forms

When a blood vessel breaks, it will tighten to let less blood into the broken blood vessel. Then cells called platelets stick together like glue to plug up the hole. Another molecule, called fibrin, acts like a net and seals the cut so that the bleeding stops and the blood vessel can heal itself.
